For many landowners, their property is their only real asset— the one thing they can rely on later in life to sustain them. It’s value often extends far beyond monetary compensation. The land may have been in their family for generations or perhaps they have future plans for generations that follow them. In some cases, there literally is no adequate dollar amount that would compensate landowners for the loss of their land “for the good of the community.”
