Right now an illegal & US ICE are playing a cat and mouse game. The illegal has to be caught 30 times before he/she is deported. That is ridiculous. They should be detained and have a background check run on them to determine if deportation is necessary. Illegal immigrants should be given a two year period to register with their local police department to receive a "registered" illegal immigrant status. If the immigrant refuses to register, then they risk immediate deportation. This could also get them into a citizenship program. (Personally, I think we should deport some lazy a$$ Americans to other countries and bring in hard working immigrants)

Law enforcement is not the issue. The US has laws that govern how illegal immigrants are treated. Congress has the power to change those laws as it sees fit. This is not about how law enforcement behaves. This is about having a nation of laws and about having a functioning legislature that moderates those laws as time and circumstances change. But once more, on difficult, emotionally charged issues, congress finds it easier to pass the buck.
